Michael Tahan is a City Councilmember, local business owner, and former School Board Member with a proven record of delivering results for Fontana neighborhoods.
As our City Councilmember, Michael has worked to “Keep Fontana Moving Forward” by helping local businesses create jobs, strengthening neighborhood safety, working to keep taxes low, and protecting funding for programs that our most vulnerable residents and community rely on. Under his leadership, crime is down and Fontana was recently ranked the fourth safest large city in California and 15th in the nation. Michael has also helped lead the way to support commonsense infrastructure improvements to reduce traffic, creating new jobs and improving quality of life for all Fontana through:
- Construction of three interchanges I-10/Citrus Ave, I-10/Cherry Ave and I-15/Duncan Canyon;
- Expanding of Chaffey College Phase IV, new Westech College Campus and expansion of Kaiser Hospital;
- Remodeling of Fontana Police Station, reconstruction of Fire Station 71, and establishing an in-house Helicopter Program;
- and remodeling of Martin Tutor Park, increase Low-Income Senior Housing, Low Income Apartments, Senior Parking Center Parking, Completion of the Pacific Electric Trail, Veterans Resource Center, and design of new Amphitheater.
He currently represents Fontana on the San Bernardino County Board (SANBAG), a regional transportation planning authority; and serves as a member of the Housing and Fire District Authorities.
Throughout his first term on the City Council, he has worked to maintain a balanced budget, increase transparency, accessibility, and accountability at City Hall.
Prior to his election to the City Council, Michael represented Fontana as a member of the San Bernardino County Board of Education. As our School Board Member, he worked to maintain a balanced budget, keep our kids safe on campus and in the hours after school, and improve academic outcomes for students of all ages.
Michael’s long record of community involvement includes having served as President of the Fontana Chamber of Commerce, and on the boards of the Fontana Boys and Girls Club, the Fontana Library Foundation, the Oldtimers Foundation, and the Inland Empire Development Corporation. He is also a former member of the Fontana Parks and Recreation Commission. Michael volunteers his time as a local youth sports couch and is an active member of the Fontana Rotary Club and the Fontana Kiwanis Club.
Michael holds a Master’s Degree in Business Management from Cal State Fullerton, and has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He and his wife, Rima Tahan, with their three sons choose to live in Fontana and attend the Fontana Unified School District.
